I’m beyond thrilled to have another installment of this blog post series: Vendor Spotlights! Jennifer is someone I’ve worked with numerous times. She has done my make-up for maternity photos and I’ve scheduled her to do make-up for numerous clients. Her work is always beautiful! She does a wonderful job listening and implementing exactly what her clients want. I’m including some images she sent me, along with some I’ve photographed as well. She is located in the Gilmer, Texas area, but I know she would be willing to travel within the East Texas area as well. Read on to see what the entire process looks like with her.
How long have you been doing hair and makeup?
I have been doing professional freelance hair and makeup since 2017. So 4 years. However I have 20 + years of theatrical Makeup experience. I have a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Theatre and was a Theatre teacher until I had 4 children and decided to “retire” and go out on my own so I could be a stay at home mom as well!
What’s your favorite part about being in the hair and make-up industry?
I LOVE helping women feel good about themselves!! As moms, wives, business owners etc. we give, give, give and do very little for ourselves. So I love it when I have someone in my chair who needs to be pampered and feel special if only for a few hours!
What makes you stand out among other local HMUAs?
I am super flexible and easy to work with! It’s not about my talent or me at all. When you’re in my chair, it’s all about you! I am also reasonably priced…usually less than others. That doesn’t mean I am less talented than other HMUAs that charge more. I charge less because I feel like if I can’t afford me, how can I expect others to? Make up is a luxury, yes, but I’d like it to be an affordable luxury. So any bride or lady can feel special for their special occasion!
Why is it important to hire a professional when it comes to hair and make-up?
It is one less thing you have to stress about on your special day! And you can be confident that you will look and feel your absolute best and that is priceless!
What does a consultation usually look like and how should brides prepare?
We will sit and talk for a few minutes and get to know each other. Fill out a little paperwork and talk about likes and dislikes! Look at some different colors and talk about your vision for how you will look. Then you will sit in the big chair and we will begin to play! You will have a hand mirror so you can look and see the process throughout so you can be as involved as you want to be. And we will work on you until we get you perfect! Exactly the way you want!
What have been your favorite hair and make up trends of 2020? What are you looking forward to in 2021 trend wise?
I love the waterfall braid and the low side messy bun! I love that 2021 trends lend to flowy unique looks as well as the classic sleek buns. It really just depends on your unique style. I think 2021 trends are anything goes! How fun is that?!
